Hagalaz’ Runedance
After her dark Aghast project, Andrea decided to explore the myths and magical tradition of her own culture. Thus she created the musical entity Hagalaz’ Runedance. She explores the magic and spirituality of Northern Europe, bringing to life the forgotten wisdom, focusing particularly on the feminine mysteries and the goddess worship traditions.
The music of Hagalaz’ Runedance has been described as Ambient Folk, Pagan Folk or Tribal, yet Andrea definitely has created her individual style. Involving a variety of musicians from alternative, medieval and folk music scenes, she has been experimenting with ancient instruments and her voice. Some songs are magical experiences, describing visions and Seidr trances (Northern Shamanism).
Hagalaz? Runedance became very popular, even reached commercial popularity and hit the album charts in Germany. She surely lit a strong flame of pagan/goddess awareness.
Andrea released three full-length Hagalaz’ Runedance albums.
“Hagalaz is a rune meaning hail, which also, on a deeper level, represents the mysterious side of femininity, and is thus connected to Hel, the underworld of the North, the subconscious. It is the rune of the Volva - the sooth-sayer and witch of the North, who explores the unknown in soul-journeys in order to bring wisdom into our world. Thus to me, Hagalaz’ Runedance represents the dance in-between worlds…” |
