Gemelli DiVersi grew out of two groups based in the Milano metropolitan area, La Cricca and Rime nel Cuore. The four man group is comprised of DJ THG, rappers Grido and Thema, and singer/rapper Strano. Gemelli come out of Articolo 31’s Spaghetti Funk school of rap Italiano; Grido and J. Ax are brothers. “Hardcore” practitioners deride the group for being the Italian Backstreet Boys who, at best, perform a form of “Hip Pop.” Despite such accusations, Gemelli’s debut album has sold over 100,000 copies. The group’s label Best Sound promotes the group as being grounded in “American funk, while never breaking with Italian melody.” |
