F.R.David is not only the singer/composer of “Words” the 80s worldwide mega hit.
After joining the band Les Ken Jones during the Twist era (1962), his professional carreer really started at the Swinging London, with different bands: Les Trefles, Les Boots, Les Jets, Les Hot Beats, the band Sans Nom (No Name), set by Bernard Paganoti (Hallyday, Cabrel, etc…) and Christian Vander (Magma).
In 1967, he begins to play solo under his actual name: F.R.David. First successful single: Symphonie.
In 1971, the band “Cockpit” was composed by Francois Auger (J.Hallyday, M.Berger) Michel Assa (C.Francois) Yves Chouard (D.Balavoine) D.Perrier (Space Art, Jean-Michel Jarre), Alain Wisniak (Cerrone, Sinclar, Original Soundtrack of the movie “Je vous trouve tres beau”) and of course F.R.David on lead vocals.
In 1972, he meets Vangelis Papathanassiou, and releases the mythical album “Earth” which boosted his international career. F.R.David is now singer and bass player.
Two years later, he joins Les Variations on a one-year-long tour in the US, and for an album named “Cafe de Paris”. The record cover is created and designed by Guy Pellaert, the author of de Rock Dreams, who signed some for the Rolling Stones (It’s only Rock’n’Roll) and David Bowie. The band performs in huge theatres and stadiums in America, as famous US rock bands like AEROSMITH, GUESS WHO, etc…
The band splits, F.R.David stays 5 more years, and works in studio with Toto, Ray Charles, Doobie Brothers, OJAY?s, Richie Havens and many others. |
